HealthcarePharmacy Technician - RetailThe demand for technicians and assistants in retail and community pharmacies has increased over the past decade and continues to grow. As pharmacists take more active roles in the drug therapies of their patients, they entrust dispensing and filling duties to their assistants. Because these duties require specific knowledge, a high degree of accuracy and superior practical abilities, these assistants need to be well-trained. In the Pharmacy Technician – Retail program at CDI College you will learn acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to work in a pharmacy environment.
The Pharmacy Technician – Retail program will prepare you to work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in community pharmacies and retail environments. You will learn to perform the numerous tasks carried out by technicians and assistants, including filling prescriptions, counting pills, measuring medications, labeling products and providing patients with background information regarding their medications. You will also learn to verify prescriptions, maintain patient records, organize insurance information and perform clerical and other duties as necessary.
When you graduate from the Pharmacy Technician – Retail program, you will be prepared to work with a pharmacist and other professionals in a retail setting or a community pharmacy. You may also be eligible to work for pharmaceutical companies as a sales representative.
