Through established working relationships with employers, Algonquin Academy offers you the opportunity to obtain real-world experience through non-paid co-op work placements. Through these co-op placements, you are able to apply academic lessons to your profession, gain confidence in your skills, and open doors to future employment.
Programs include Accounting and Payroll, Fitness and Health Promotion, Medical Lab/Office Assistant, Paralegal, Pharmacy Technician and Travel Counselor. Online and Certificate programs are also available in select disciplines.

Business / Management / Office ServicesAccounting and Payroll Administrator
The objective of this program is to train students in the practices of financial accounting & payroll in Canada. This program focuses on three key elements that exposes each student to gain an understanding of the theoretical principles of accounting & payroll, the practical “Hands on” skills required to do the job and the communication skills needed to work within an office environment.<BR><BR>
Sport Sciences and FitnessFitness & Health PromotionThis program is designed to prepare graduates to plan, market, and deliver safe and effective fitness, wellness and healthy lifestyle programs. Our goal is to have students develop current, practical knowledge and skills in such areas as the development, implementation and evaluation of fitness and wellness programs, health promotion, lifestyle management, fitness assessments, leadership, safety and injury management. Throughout the program our aim is to have students gain and build on their communication, leadership, interpersonal, and technical skills.
HealthcareMedical Laboratory Assistant
The goal of this comprehensive program is prepare students to demonstrate the acquired skills necessary in a medical office or laboratory setting. The theoretical and practical medical laboratory education provides students with a solid understanding of their responsibilities.<BR><BR>
Medical Office Assistant
The Medical Office Assistant program is designed to provide you with the medical, business, and communication skills necessary to start a career as part of the health care team in a medical office.<BR><BR> The 6 week co-op placement combined with 20 weeks of instructor led classroom learning ensures you graduate confident and familiar with the use of medical terminology, office procedures, microcomputer applications, customer service and related skills. Common job titles for students obtaining employment after graduation include medical office assistant, dental office assistant, medical secretary, medical transcriptionist, receptionist and medical billing clerk.
Personal Support Worker
Graduates of the Personal Support Worker Diploma Program are prepared to pursue a career in the traditional nursing assistant role in health care environments such as nursing homes, retirement residences, hospitals, hospices, and with health care service organizations.<BR><BR>
Health SciencesPharmacy AssistantThe Pharmacy Assistant diploma program is designed to prepare you for a challenging career in a Community/Retail Pharmacy, manufacturing Facility or Long-Term Care Facility. This 25 week diploma program is offered during the day and includes a 6 week unpaid work placement.
Four weeks of work placement combined with 21 weeks of classroom instruction ensures you graduate with confidence in yourself and in your theoretical and practical skills.
Pharmacy Technician
The objective of this program is to equip students with the competencies, theoretical and practical, necessary to gain employment in a pharmacy environment.<BR><BR> The program emphasizes interpersonal skills and a strong sense of responsibility for this client-centered field. Duties such as preparation of medicine for dispensing, inventory control, drug distribution, narcotics control and sterilization are just a sampling of the duties performed by Pharmacy Technicians.<BR><BR>
